She is an actress, singer and director and who also runs her own full time business. We decided on a location shoot, so we chose a local park on a nice sunny day to do the shoot.

It really was a joy to photograph her, very little direction needed and she has a lovely way of reacting to the camera. We had such a good time that we decided to do a few portrait shots, outside of the required headshot.

I recently asked my friend EJ, a very talented graphic designer, would she design for me a simple logo for my website, business cards, Facebook page etc. We had a few discussions, threw a few ideas around and eventually came up with the design you see on the head of all my pages.

I wanted to avoid any obvious camera references, I think enough people have used the obvious ones without me adding to it. But I still wanted to have some reference to the world of photography, I am a photographer after all!

So we came up with the idea of using the infinity symbol. It can have multiple meanings, but is also on practically every lens or camera ever made. It also fit in with the simple design that I wanted.

The Unique Precious Forever part, I came up with while on a recent course on creating Copy. I think it fits nicely in with my style of photography and, hopefully, will resonate with others.

I'm delighted with how it turned out and am proud to have it on my website and business cards. I'm sure as time passes I'll end up tweaking and changing it, but for a first logo, I think it's pretty good. So last Monday, RTÉ, in partnership with An Post, Dublin City Council and the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht as well as collaboration and support from Century Ireland, the Abbey Theatre, the National Library, SIPTU, Transport for Ireland and the local business sector, held a commemorative celebration of the 1916 Rising in Dubin City Centre, mostly based around the main thoroughfare, O'Connell Street.

The day was a snapshot of what Dublin would have been like in the run up to the Easter Rising of 1916.

I rambled in with my camera and took some shots as I enjoyed the spectacle. There were plenty of people who had made the effort to dress up in the fashions of the times, and I met quite a few of my friends from the world of amateur musical theatre.

This event was a forerunner for the 100th Anniversary of the 1916 Easter Rising, which promises to be a spectacular affair next year, and one I will definitely be photographing.

While strong male voices fill Dublin's O'Connell Street with songs of yesteryear.

There were plenty of dapper looking people getting into the spirit of the day.

Free walking tours had been organised for visitors on the day.

Volunteer actors added to the spectacle by recreating street scenes from 1915 in the run up to the rising.

Plenty of people entered into the spirit of the day and let their inner actors run free by dressing up in the fashions of the day.

Rathines and Rathgar Musical Society entertained the crowd with excerpts from a popular musical of the day.

Of course the sunshine played it's part in creating what turned out to be a fun and interesting day for one and all.

Even a certain photographer could not resist getting in on the action!

So now that I have a website up and running, I'm learning quickly how much time it can take up.

Choosing and uploading images is a task all in itself, then there's fine tuning things like fonts, design elements, banner images, which images to choose for slideshows etc.

Phew!! I'm making myself tired just thinking about it ;-)

But really, it's great fun and I'm enjoying it immensely. The temptation is to rush things and just get them up there, but I think it's better to take my time and get it right :-)

My next project is a Logo. I'm speaking with a designer friend of mine and we are going to try and come up with something that represents both myself and the general theme of my site. I'm really excited about that part.

]]><![CDATA[A Lens a Week]]>Sat, 20 Sep 2014 13:44:27 GMThttps://www.robkennedyphotography.com/blog/a-lens-a-weekSo just to keep my photography brain ticking over, from today on I've decided to post a pic a day (kinda like my 365 from a few years ago) using a different lens each week.

I don't have a huge collection of lenses, so it will only last a couple of Months, but hopefully it will be an interesting project for myself and anyone who follows my page.

I brought in Stokes Kennedy Crowley to oversee the selection of lens each week ;-) ...so to start the project off on a slightly unusual foot the inaugural lens I've chosen is an old manual Nikkor 135mm 2.8mm that I bought with an old Nikon Film camera from my friend Alan Rossiter a while back.

Should be interesting. Manual focus..back to the old days ]]>
